Hey everyone Rube Lance here with your weekend Rube Rant. Today I wanted to rant about Nate Burleson. But not in a negative way, in an amazing way because Nate Burleson has a lot of Buzz going because he is doing an excellent job as a TV analyst for NFL Network, If you look around and you see all these other guys that are are doing things for other networks and a lot of them are just hot garbage. I can't stand them, people get annoyed by them, and they don't know what they're talking about half the time. In fact I was driving down during this Christmas weekend to visit family and I was forced to listen to the the Washington Redskins vs the Tennessee Titans game on the radio and I won't mention a name because it's not important. But listening to the analyst, he was an All Pro Hall of Fame former player, but he sounded like a first-year Communications major. And I think that's a lot of networks do both radio and TV is they get the big-name and they think just because they were this great player that it translates into being a great analyst and it just doesn't. It's refreshing to see the NFL Network go out and take a guy like Nate Burleson who obviously played in the NFL but he is not a Hall of Fame guy but he is an excellent analyst. Him, Curt Menefee and Steve Mariucci are in my top three right now of all the announcers that are currently going. So I want to give a shout out to NFL Network for putting Nate in that position and for him stepping up and doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work. This has been your weekend Rube Rant.

It's hinted at heavily in this week's show, but a hot topic is The Top 5 NFL QB list, as of right now. 'Right now' being a key phrase.
I can't begin to assume what kind of list our listeners would compile, but this much is certain: Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady shouldn't be in the Top 5.
I know, this would be football sacrilege if we were assuming the list took into account a quarterback's NFL football career. Brady with his multiple rings. Rodgers with his bling and history of dramatics on the field. But, this year neither quarterback has been elite. For Brady, it could be Father Time finally catching up. For Rodgers it could be that he's done with Mike McCarthy, and possibly testing his status by forcing the coach out. I believe that if the Packers lose to the Cardinals this week, McCarthy will be fired before he gets to the locker room. Thankfully for Coach McCarthy, the Cardinals are the worst team in the league.
But, back to the list.
Rube Mike's Top 5 NFL QBs (Right Now):
Do you agree? Have the name of a different quarterback that you feel belongs? Drop it in the comments, and let's see what your Top 5 looks like!
When speaking with fans of Rube Sports Radio, a good indication if a topic is worthy of writing about is if the fans are passionate about it. An interesting dichotomy: some topics that we think will elicit a strong reaction, don’t. And vice-versa.
This week, the most harried discussion has taken place regarding Kirk Cousins, the highly paid quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Not only is he highly paid, but his high pay is guaranteed. Like, fully guaranteed. It’s almost unheard of in the NFL, where the mantra has long been “football contracts aren’t guaranteed”. It was sort of a badge of pride worn by fans of football, as they looked down on MLB and its bloated guaranteed contracts.
But, it’s starting to look like a different day, at least for the most critical part of a football team on game day: the quarterback.
Of course, with the big bucks and the guarantee comes expectations that match. When a quarterback doesn’t perform up to his contract, the contract blows up in his face. That’s what’s happening with Cousins. Last year’s Vikings team was 13-3 and played in the NFC championship game without Cousins. With basically the same roster, except the addition of an $84,000,000 guaranteed ‘franchise’ quarterback, the Vikings faithful sweating a 5-4-1 record so far.
There are the apologists that want to excuse away the team’s performance as not being solely resting on Kirk’s shoulders. That’s fair. It should not solely rest on his shoulders, but a lion’s share belongs squarely there. As it should be.
Minnesota Vikings fans owe it to themselves not to accept mediocrity. With one of the top rosters in the NFL, they need to demand more from the highest paid player on the team. Guaranteed.
