Introduction: Dean Grillo joins us as a guest host. Dean is an agent with O2K Worldwide Management Group. He grew up in Warroad, Minnesota and played professional hockey in the USA, as well as overseas. He runs Minnesota Hockey Camps in Nisswa, Minnesota.
Questions for Dean (if you want to hear the answers, listen to the show):
Lance: do you visit players in the nice cities more often than you visit players in the less desirable cities?
Mike: I think a lot of Rubes envision your life as red carpet, celebrity filled, wining and dining. Yet others probably think the old school sleazy history. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Is your life as glamorous as people think, or as cutthroat as it once was?
Lance: what age player do you start looking for legitimate prospects?
Mike: Would you rather fight seven, one-foot tall geese or one seven-foot-tall goose? And why?
Lance: what skill set should someone have, or develop, if they want to become a sports agent?
Mike: If you were to write a book titled Understanding Hockey, For Dummies, what would be the three major points you’d want the reader to get in order to increase their appreciation of hockey?
Scottie’s Terrible Take:
We make fun of this guy. Wow, what a Rube. Saying Eli Manning is a third tier quarterback?!?
More sports questions for Dean:
Mike: The Olympics are coming, starting February 9-25. I think Hockey is one of the more popular events because of the Miracle on Ice in 1980. Give us a quick run-down of this year’s field and who the favorites are to take home the gold.
Lance: is there something the NHL can do to make their product more streamline?
Mike: Football is under attack right now on a few levels: we have the concussion issue which is also prevalent in hockey (Syndey Crosby comes to mind). There’s also the Honoring the Flag issue in football. Are concussions threatening the future of hockey as they are football, and is protesting the flag a thing in the NHL?
Super Bowl preview:
Super Bowl LII – New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles:
Dean: he has friends in Philly and used to go to games in Philly frequently. It’s hard to not root for a winner, though. Grillo picks New England as the winner straight up and to cover the 4-point spread.
Mike: I want to cheer for the Eagles, my heart is there with Nick Foles. Every Arizona Wildcat fan is cheering for him to get a ring.
New England is favored by 4 points. Gronk will play. Anyone who thinks otherwise also believes in mermaids and unicorns. Brady is healthy, having had his stitches removed.
Philly has the better defense. Patriots have the greatest coach of all time. Coach Peterson of the Eagles strikes me as an aggressor, I don’t think they’ll take a patient approach if they get the lead. They will keep the pedal to the metal. The Patriots always have a trick up their sleeve, but this feels like it’s Philadelphia’s time to shine. The underdogs and their ridiculous masks will be the sports story of 2018. Give me the Eagles straight up, but I’ll take the points for good measure!
Lance: trying to get the emotions out of the game because how the Eagles fans treated Minnesota fans. Lance says Eagles fans don’t deserve to win. The Patriots always seem to get it done. New England can play anywhere. Eagles will be weaker because they aren’t at home. Take the Patriots and give up the points. The Patriots defense will be good enough to handle Philly, and it won’t be competitive.
